It's hard to find someone who is willing to hike deertrails and cougar runs. Bear thickets are another matter. Dicier still is being on a high, narrow, deadend ridge honeycombed with cougar dens. They were burial grounds before The People were forced to vacate. I usually hike these trails solo. I've had cougars grunting in rut on either side of me during the fall. Great Horned owls sound like a helicopter right over your head when they take off 50ft away. And sleeping bucks........ what an explosion.
